It should be.It is the second most common language in the U.S. Oh please, Cat Fitzy(below) I know plenty of americans that butcher the english language.Learning a second language would be an asset.

hell no it aint!...the mexicans need to learn some d**n english!...the schools are trying to make us speak thier language so we can communicate...i say if they wanna cross the river into our country they ned to respect us as americans...not mexicans!...if they wanna talk to us they can just learn english...i will never... I learnt english in school here in Uruguay, and no, we are not a banana republic, we are nor indians (nothing against them), and it opened the world for me, I also learnt portuguese, italian and greek, and I am working on french and german... More

i think that it is because we have alot of spanish people that live here now so we need to know what they are saying to use when they come here but they also need to be able to speak english if the come over here so it should go both ways

if you live along the US Mexican boarder it helps.Regardless of where you live you can communicate with more people if you are bilingual.In the work place you have a greater chance of getting hired if you speak another language
