How do I find a consultant job without any consultancy experience?

I have over 10 years working experience most of which is in Hong Kong. I now reside in the North West of UK. I have an MBA and a Diploma in Management Studies. However, I am finding it difficult to obtain positions that would allow me to progress in career. All I seem to find is administration monotonous jobs. Does anyone else have the same problem? I would like to join the consultant profession, as details of it appears to correspond with my desires in a career. Although I do have management experience, employers here seems to disregard it. I do have references from permanent positions that I have held in Hong Kong, but no one seems to be interested in looking at them.

NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!!! Highlight your education and your work experience. Let EVERYONE know that you are available to consultant on whatever types of projects you are looking to do. Think about starting small (maybe taking a few assignments that you ordinarily would not take) just to get your name out there... More

Depending on what kind of work you are into. You can use that as the basis of what you cam and cannot do and move on form them. You only need to get one good contract and give it a good shot and that way you will break into the market. Good luck
