How do I get to know people in a small town ?

I have lived here about 2 years and I have no friends here yet. I have tried volunteering for things, joining groups and even getting a part time job as a cashier. Nothing is working, maybe people in SE Idaho aren't interested in expanding their social circles.

go to festivals (if it's a small town, trust me, we've got festivals). You can also get to know people by going to church or youth groups. go to localized shops, and get to know the people there. It may take a little time, but the town will accept you.

small towns have a tendency to become acquainted SLOWLY with newcomers. They do not trust easily, sticking only with what they know. It will take a awhile...and even then..you may always be the "new boy/girl on the block"
