What do you prefer being after 10 years in the IT industry, a developer or a manager? and why?

Most large software companies have two career streams, technical and managerial and middle level. What do you prefer being after 10 years in the industry remains a senior developer who gives technical direction or be a development manager who manages a team of developers and takes daily reporting and task allocation. Give reasons for the answer you choose and which do you think is more rewarding in the long term?

After 30 (!) years in IT I still love hacking code - but the money is in managing - sometimes I really wonder if it's worth it though.

I've been in IT for 20+ years. I love to program. It's productive. When I am done with a job something that was broken is fixed, or something exists that didn't exist before. It's creative. I don't feel that way when I am telling other people what to do.
