Do I have the right to speak with a judge since my attorney is not doing his job?

My attorney was temp. disbarded while we were in the middle of a child custody case. We were unaware that a counter claim was set against us and the case was ruled in favor of the defense by way of default. I don't feel that we were represented properly. The Judge who ruled on the case was used to rule-out any conflict of intrest since the other party is a police officer. I realize that this is probably normal protocal in this type of situation however, I don't have the cash to get another layer and have a mountain of evidence that the judge should have looked at. What are my options? Thank You M.S. "I forgot to mention other parts to this question". Should I have been served papers on the judges decision at the same time as my attorney. I did not even know that a ruleing had been made until the default was ruled.

You'll be hard-pressed to be allowed to speak with the judge, since judge's are very uncomfortable having ex parte conversations with parties... More

If you beleieve a ruling is incorrect you have the right to file a motion to appeal it, ( stating legal rasons why) you will need an attorney., No first the judge would not see you about it, and no he will not talk to you about his ruling against you.
