What are some tips for a promotion when you have not been a "model" employee in the past, but have improved?

are your improvements noticed? praised? even cared about? if you say no then probably no advice will help you. Once branded a non-model employee, pretty hard changing that. they make act nice and happy that you've changed but don't expect any promotion out of it.

Sorry, you will have to just continue where you are and hope for the best unless you change jobs and hope no one knows any one where you used to work.
