How to start a small business?

I am more and more frustrating with unrewarding salary paid jobs and I wanna try out something else.. But obviously i am not sure where to start. Could anyone with experience help me guide? First of all how to choose a business? How to get the financial support? How to eliminate as much risk as possible?
