Why are we so forgiving of celebrities?

John Lennon sang about love, yet abandoned his oldest son. James Brown was arrested for wife beating. Yet, we still put these guys on a pedestal. Help me understand!

People need paragons to see as examples - unfortunately we are exposed to movie stars and singers more than we are to people who actually do some good. So we cut them slack more than we would an average person because people so desperately want them to be better than the average... More

Because we enjoy their talent and their personal lives are not really any of our business, we make it our business and put them under the spot light for examination.
