You need a good slicker brush, an undercoat rake, a mat breaker, a greyhound come and a furminator tool would help alot.

For a comb, you need one that has strong teeth and not too close together and possibly (as I use) a curry comb.. I like the curry comb best

Look for a brush that is made for the undercoat. It will have a lot of very thin metal bristles. And brush the dog everyday. Their hair actually has a little wave to it, you can see it more when they are wet after a bath, and they are prone to getting matted up if they are not brushed regularly.

A universal slicker brush, and a greyhound comb, the mat breaker, and "The Stuff" conditioner...always brush with slicker first...then get a comb through the coat...especially under the chest and in the flank area...and the tail....if you spray "the stuff" first it will help with the brushout...shelties tend to mat behind...
