Scams and Phishing sites abound in the Internet. I've been their victim sometime. In a couple of cases, though the company is legit, I found the marketing/compensation systems unreliable and/or the product impossible to sell. Yes, I do lost some money by shooting blindly for online opportunities. You can be their prey too if you can't get reliable advise from person who have experienced being cheated.
From my experience, I recommend you to look for:
1. Financially-solid online company who has not less than 5-years of productive and honest business. They must have a proven (automated, if possible) compensation plan that pays, provides superb support via dedicated (not outsourced) forum, a satisfied community of members, and openly-posted company information.
2. A marketable, high-demand product that can be sold worldwide and in realtime. A product that can be supported aftersales. Not those that can only give you income from ad-placing, spamming, online research, surveys that will take much of your precious time and/or are impossible to sell/accomplish.
3. The company has in place a simple, fully automated yet rejection-free marketing system. From mass-mailed invitations, tracking, automated billing, after-sales support to Swiss-clock precision of commision payout .
4. A business that anyone worldwide can do. Even average people with novice computer knowledge, or are those not really business-inclined can have the opportunity to succeed too.
5. Compensation plan that provides an ever increasing residual income that is diredtly proportional with your desire to help others succeed also in life.
Sounds difficult? Yes. And it cost me money to find those that pays. I may give you a list here. But there is one company that not only provides above but exceeds all expectations - - -

You sure received a lot of answers to your posting. I want you to know that I am not plugging anything (there are no referral links in my answer etc.) I do work at home in my part time and I do make a good extra income and maybe what I do might be of interest to you
(1) A good way to start making money is by selling on "auctions" sites! Sell unwanted items that you have at home on local or on international "auction" sites !
(2) You can also make a little extra pocket change by doing simple things like doing surveys, "reading emails", etc. Depends on who you sign up with, you might spend a 1/2 hour a day doing this
(3) Having your own website / blog can make you some real good money, it takes a little time and effort but you can make some real money.
You can make money from the Internet, no matter where you live! You just have to put in the time and effort Here are some free informational links that I used to help me get started

Mom -- the best, most important job there is (though I never want to be one)
Otherwise, you should sell stuff on eBay or try doing Pampered Chef or Mary Kay or something like that.

Mine, but you can't have it :)
I work for a big company and my job was in an office, but I convinced my boss that I did need to come to the office to work. Perhaps, you can get a conventional job and then convince the boss you can be more productive at home.
Good Luck in your search.

There always opening a day care for pets.
Or opening a day care for older kids that can't fine a job.
Or you can get off your butt and get a real job and cut the credit cards up.
Or there are jobs on the Internet. But I am looking too. For the past 5 years and all I fine is you have to buy this and that to get started. That's no help is it. When you have to pay $$$ to make less $$.

Top Realtors always need people to work for them at home.... Jobs that they don't have time for....Flyer's, stuffing envelopes, etc., alot of little things that they don't have room in the office to be done... I do extra work for this gal because she is simply too busy and it gives me extra money... Go into some of your most popular offices and you will be surprised.... what do you have to lose.... good luck...

Do not go into more credit card debt by falling for fake work at home scams. If they ask you for money for instructions or merchandise BEFORE telling you how the plan operates stay away!
Also if a company is going to hide its location or method of operation that should raise red flags for anyone.
Try selling stuff on eBay or sign up with ClickBank and promote their products.

You can make money off of ebay but beware of the fees. If your products are not selling you will end up owing tons of fees. You may want to try a different avenue such as yahoo auctions which is free.
My opinion from work at home ops. They are a waste of time and the only ones that are getting rich are the ones selling the programs.
Work at home ops are only good if they do not require you to buy into what they ask such as a 90 fee.

With a computer at home and internet connection, you can start earning from home, without any investment. You should choose your work at home job according to your skills and time available.
If you have a good typing speed, general and legal transcription jobs from companies like Mountain West, Tigerfish and Accutran are available. Some of these companies do not require any experience.
You can apply directly from their websites which are listed at
http://tinyurl.com/o65rb Medical transcription work at home is also available if you have completed a course and have relevant experience.

You can make some pretty good extra cash doing online surveys. It's free and I've been able to make a little money doing it. Here's the site I use:

I do work at home jobs and make between $300-$800 a week dependant on how many hours a day you are willing to work (I do between 1 - 6 hrs a day) Unfortuanlty I tried doing it the free way and was making around $25 a month so I realised you do have to invest money to make money.. The first Link I have here for you Is an online paid survey site.. It gives you links to additional survey sites once you pay the join fee with this site these are all free.. The site is getting you to pay them to put you among the top of the choosers list that way you will be picked first to do surveys over someone that has joined a free site.. these are fun and you can download free software that fill theses surveys out for you automatically..(the more you fill the more cash you make)
Generally you can expect to make $5 - $25 per survey and these can take 2mins - 10 mins to do..(not bad considering) also you will get offers to read email and get paid (you click the links provided by the site and earn about 20c per click (it will add up eventually) umm not a bad way to make cash if your lazy like me.. and can't be bothered getting a real job..(I make more than some of my mates that do the normal 9-5 job and they hate it)
but you have to be motivated to do a few hours a day or you will not make any cash!!
try this survey link for more info
