Any estimators here?

I have a job offering of being an estimator. (training will be done by top estimator) I have never done it before but did help an estimator occassionally on my last job when I did A/R. I know some of what the job consist of doing. But the big picture of the job seems somewhat difficult. Is estimating jobs hard? if not, long does it take to learn? I am a bit nervous. I know I can do it. I have done many jobs (A/R, electrical work, remodeling house, roofing, machine operating, timekeeping) The estimator job is in chemical plant so I am familiar with plants. But not this kind of job. Someone reassure me. I don't know what the pay will be. But I have heard they make decent money. I live in Texas. I know that they estimate how long the job will take, how many employees will be needed, how much material will be,etc. The offer is from estimator that my hubby works for. I am hopefully going to be doing the resume that is needed this weekend. I will talk to him then about the pay. My hubby said something about around $15 or $16 starting out. But didn't ask him personally. I know that the estimator is making over $40 an hour because he got another raise to stay with the company he is with,...and turned down $40 for another job. Hopefully will be finding out this coming week when I can start. Thanx for the help.
