I just saw the movie 'blood diamond'. Terrible. Who was the primary market for diamonds again?

It's actually De Beers they monopolize the diamond industry i haven't watched Blood Diamond but being more of a financial guy i know who sells the worthless piece of rock for hundreds and thousands of dollars for lives torn apart by war.
