What happens to our junk when we flush the toilet?

I know the water gets treated & cleaned through several processes & etc, & I've also heard that some treatment plants separate our waste and put bacteria that feed on the feces & other stuff to make it into fertilizer. What else happens? Details details! All your answers are detailed & each has new input to supplement others data. Because of this I'm afraid I can't decide which is the best answer, but thank you all very much for the information!!!!

The solids are allowed to compost so that the materials are broken down. What is left is sometimes buried in a landfill, sometimes... More
