How can I help myself?

I had a realisation this weekend that I am suffering from depression again, I had it 2 years ago and managed to lift myself from it although at the time I was on tablets and had my fiance with me.
I am now in a place where I only know the people from work, I love my job but am finding things increasingly hard to cope with, I think the depression is a reaction to the last year in which I had a rough ride with my fiance then we broke up in October.
I feel relieved now I know whats wrong with me and it explains alot, but now I need to get back on my feet, look after myself - but I dont know where to start, and some days I just cry and cry.
I need to be stronger- I am quite negative about things- which was never me I had a really positive outlook on life at one point.
Im not unnactracitve and would like to say have a great personality thats quite witty, but I feel helpless at the moment, whats the best steps to take- I realise I have to speak to my Doctor.

I agree don't start labelling urself as depressive & all that negative thought. Doctors (I'm sorry to say) mostly are of no help but give anti-depressants & sometimes refer you to a psychiatrist. But you can ask your GP to refer you for CBT (cognitive behavioural therpay) on NHS but usally there's long waiting list. Maybe you'd like to see a therpaist privately ( but make sure you find a good one, I know one in London & Essex who is very good). But I might be able to find you a good one depneding whre you live(please IM or email me).
I tought maybe try healing? have you ever tried it? it helped me alot, it's done by laying on of hands on specific energy points on body & it works at a deep level to heal you as a whle person. The national Federation of helaers have centresa around UK &you can find one nearest to you (but make sure you go regularly, as sometimes it takes time, your healer should advise you how long u need to go.
(please see link & type ur potscode for nearest centre)
also you can use affirmations to change your self & ur life. It's very powerful & it'll make a difference. Don't allow urself 2 b neative, replace every negative thought with a positive, eg affirm I am positive or I love & approve of myself & I trust the process of life. If you want to really help yourself, I suggest this book(see link)

Another thing I wanted to suggest is this meditation CD. It's abit new age so I don't know how you'd find it, it's from an author who writes about angels & this Cd is about balancing chakras (the main energy points in the body that govern all our well being). u can find more about chakras in the book that comes with the CD & also do a search on Google. But it did help me & if you do it regularly, you'll notice a difference.
I sincerely hope you feel better soon! please hang in there, & above all pray God to help. He won't let you down, I promise...
lots of luv & hugs

I'm sorry how you feel. I think the first step is you need a good friend who you can talk to and go out with. Is your family close at hand. Maybe they can help. I always find nobody can help like close family. Sorry I cant be of more help. I wish you all the best for the future, and just try to be positive.

Yes, you need to see your doctor first, because depression will colour everything and push you towards making the wrong decisions in life. Make a conscious effort to socialise with people at work if asked (even if you don't like them that much - you meet other people that way) , look after yourself, get regular sleep, early nights, plenty of exercise (easier said than done I know, I hate it, but I know it works ) do something you enjoy to take your mind off things, even temporarily. Soon you will see the opportunities - after a period of grieving that you miss your fiance but are now free to be yourself again - and a better person than you were before, on your terms. See the doctor, - antidepressants really work if you use them properly - personally I think prozac is amazing - it turned my life around - and soon you will not need a crutch but be able to be cheerful and start the positive "snowball" effect of attracting people to you - join a club, do something you have always wanted to do (salsa? photography?cookery? I don't know, but there must be something) - build up your support network. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck, and have faith in yourself. Oh yes, and no matter how tempted, avoid the booze. It is a depressant and whilst the first drink might make you feel better, it will drag your right down to lower than you were before. All the best

First, understand and appreciate that when you get like this, you are your own worst enemy. You cannot trust yourself, and you might very well be lying to yourself when you say that you can "lift yourself" out of it. For example, you may say you "need to get back on your feet" when, really, what you need to do is mourn the loss of your fiance? Maybe you say you need to be less negative, but really you need to allow yourself your feelings? Or maybe you're indulging too much and you need medication? Who knows. I don't. You might not either.

The best steps to take: seek help from a therapist or a doctor. Make Being Well a priority in your life, just like you would anything else. Don't let anything get in your way, not money, not shame, not guilt. Get the help you need.

Good luck.

You have the answers yourself but you sound very lonely. I know how you feel cos I'm in a similar place myself i.e. break down of long term relationship & a messy one at that, I don't socialise with anyone, but honey ultimately we have to take those first steps to recovery ourselves this is the unfortunate side of being an adult. Go forth with courage and remember you're not alone and by some of the answers it sounds like there's a few people wishing you well. Go for it full force!!! I can relate to some of your symptoms.i was diagnosed with depression recently and take fluoxetine daily.i find it hard still as i don't have that many friends plus unemployed which makes filling the day up quite hard.its easy to say fill the day up but be abit selfish and just do things you like to.or make friends on line with similar problems and talk to them.

Babe depends how bad it is you might need a treatment. If you keep crying then yes 1 month prozac will help you out. Then start exercising , eat right , sleep well , take a LOT of magnesium as it will reduce anxiety & stress and think positively. Rent movie at blockbuster and laugh. Life is a journey you can choose to make it terrible or nice. It is in your hands. You broke up!! We all do my love , turn the page , talk to yahoo messenger , start dating on yahoo personals but occupy your time hun. Then you will be ok , I promiss.

The best way to see mental disorders is a series of varying degrees of depression and stress. Mild stress produces an excellent person for creativity and performance. More depression saps the energy and creativity that these people once had as the leave neurosis and become bipolar. There are three levels used to describe Bipolar. Then the imbalance of chemicals made by your own brain plays havoc with the whole control system. The auto brain or lower brain can aggressively access messages that were kept from it earlier. As the depression continues and more and more logic substitutions are made the mind goes into a full psychosis where ideas are disassociated and language decays. The end result of psychosis from severe depression is schizophrenia which has been described as incurable . There are of course are always a few people who have been able to recover mental stability. The greatest learning step required for all levels of depression recovery is to see that society as two groups . Study what you group are in and stay with your own kind to find peace and happiness.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

This next semester i am taking a System Analysis and Design(SADSIGN) and i am getting nervous because even though i am pretty good at logics, i am not that good at coding. But since it is a case study, we will be on group, we will be four i think. Project manager, Analyst, Documentation, and the programmer. I am asking what jobs i can get after graduating I.T. because what if i graduated I.T. and still not that good at coding, i am hoping that there will be a jobs that will require less programming. Like Database manager or in Multimedia or in charge of Network. So is there jobs that doesn't require hardcore programming skills?
