Skills you need for success....
Listen.....
As a baby, you began learning your mother tongue simply by listening and observing. This is the most natural method of learning a language. If you think grammar and rules of syntax bog you down, go back to the primal mode of learning -- listen and observe. Be alert when you listen to someone speaking English, be it at your workplace, at a party or on television. Watch out for common expressions and usages. If you are able to grasp regularly used ways of greeting and small talk, you will be able to initiate speaking more confidently. Start noting simple things: If you meet someone at a party, do you always end up saying, 'Hi! Nice meeting you...'?
How about introducing variations here? Observe how others talk and try varying your greeting. Why not try saying 'How do you do?' or 'h*********u doing?' Greetings and introduction lines may seem trivial, but if you are not fluent in a language, you often tend to avoid even these, thus ending all prospects of communication. If you can break this barrier, you can take your first step into the realm of success....
How to improve your listening skills
Read...
While listening to English speakers definitely helps, it is important to read if you wish to expedite the process of improving. Most people are put off by this because they associate reading with big, literary books. However, what we are talking about is reading anything and everything written in correct English. Therefore, your range of choices could extend from comic strips to newspaper articles, gadget manuals to movie reviews.
While reading, try and get a feel of the language and usage of words. More importantly, note the use of articles (a, an, the) and prepositions (in, on, at, from, into, over, under, etc) as these are areas where the most common errors are committed.
go through the following article wherein you may get some sort of inspiration.
Fifty three-year-old Nirjharini Chakraborty, initially a class IV staff in a primary school, could qualify as an icon of women's empowerment.
The third child among six siblings, Nirjharini's struggle began when she was employed as an orderly in her own school soon after she passed out four decades ago.
However, today, merit and determination have taken her to the other side of the table from where she heads a college.
Nirjharini is now regarded as a popular teacher and an efficient administrator. But she says that she has hardly changed.
"I find no complacency in what I do now, neither did it hurt me when I worked as a peon. I have served both these posts with equal respect,” Nirjharini says.
The first milestone in her journey up the ladder was when she became a schoolteacher in 1975 after completing her graduation in Science. And a decade later she became a lecturer.
Nirjharini now with a doctorate degree, was appointed the Principal of RBC College for women five years ago.
"Whatever be the work, if you work with honesty and if you love your job you are bound to grow,” the lady says.
It may sound like a cliché, but is very reassuring coming from a woman like her.
Ever heard the expression "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he?" The thought was so profound that James Allen used it as the title to his book " As a Man Thinketh", first published around 1910
You are creating EXACTLY what you are thinking about, right this very second. Soon that thought will manifest itself into reality and take up residence in your life. Nido Quebein said it a bit differently. He teaches that "Garbage in, garbage out is not accurate. Garbage goes in, stays, and gives birth to triplets.”
As we wrap up the year that was 2006 - there is a lot going on. You may be planning Holiday celebrations, have family or friends coming to visit, gifts to buy, places to go and things to do.
But in those times when you are not rushing around, take some time out to think. And when you do, think about what you want.
Do everything in your power to avoid thinking of the past, anything negative, or things that you do not want more of. Because as you think about them, you are attracting more of that into your life.
Make a few resolutions, develop a strategic plan, and fill in the details. As you plan in detail those things that you want, you can have tem.
And if you think about how to get them, you will......
.There is magic in the power of your mind. I encourage you to THINK ABOUT THAT!
