How is foam cut in industry mainly to go in furniture (UK)?

I am asking the question in this section not the employment because somebody might know! Am i right in thinking that fabricating/cutting shapes out of foam is done using a hot knife method or is foam shaped on a vertical band saw. Seen a job advertised in job centre for a foam fabricator! How difficult is this type of work to learn? If i have used a vertical band saw to cut shapes could i master this job ok to cut foam shapes. Do you draw around a template and then cut around the shape on the foam.

Depends on the type of foam and the size of the block and whether its in production quantities or prototypes. It can be cut with a hot wire or a textile knife or a water jet cutter. I'm sure that templates would be used. if you have used a bandsaw, there shouldn't be a problem in getting the hang of cutting foam.

I think you will find several pieces of shop equipment that are made to do just that. I would call Bosch or Freud. Bosch has a foam cutting blade for their jig saws which I have used in making camera cases. Some say to freeze the foam and cut it while it is frozen.
