Is it possible to keep my 8 to 5 job while I start a Real Estate career?

I am in PA. I have already passed the real estate course I am preparing to go and take the test. I am not financially able to jump into this and quit my current job. I need the health benefits also for my daughter. Several agents have told me that I should not even bother because you can't make any money "part time". I won't consider it "part time" work. I consider this to be another full time job. My current job is 8 to 5. Isn't it true that the people buying and selling propery work also? I realize that this will be tough, but is it possible?

Of course you can, at least start that way... I know a few people that did Real estate part time and worked 8-5. They primarily focused on this after work and on weekends. Where there's a will there's a way.
