Oscar results disappointment?

The biggest disappointment for me is Martin Scorsese winning best director for The Departed. I am not saying this because I don't like the guy. My reasons for - The Departed was adapted from a Chinese movie called Infernal Affairs shot in 2004. It must make a director's job much easier when he can see a movie that's already made. Kind of like copying in some ways. It is an unfair advantage. Also there were numerous first hand reports by the crew that Scorsese cave in to Jack Nicholson who actually changed the script, took over the direction of many scenes. Now that is not a sign of a great director. The Departed is no difference from any other cops and robbers movies out there. I know Scorsese waited a long time to win but I understand the Oscars is not about whoever waits the longest should win, it's about the best amongst the best. My vote went to Clint Eastwood who shows great talents in directing actors who don't even speak English and did a great job.

Also, "The Departed" is not one of Martin's best films. He should have gotten it years earlier

actually, I think it would be harder to make a movie that has already been made. everyone is going to compare the two of them. But if Scorsese's win was your biggest disappointment, then you lost all of your movie critic credibility.

Yeah, but "The Departed" and "Infernal Affairs" are nothing like each other from a directorial point of view. They have wildly different tones, and themes of the films are quite different as well. I don't think it's at all fair to say that Scorsese "copied" Andrew Lau. Also, a great director knows when to take good... More

Coming from Taiwan, I was also surprised that The Departed won. I have a friend here who commented that Internal Affairs was much better than The Departed. Mr. Scorsese is a man of great talents, but I don't think he deserved it this year. The Departed isn't even his best work to date!! I agree with you that Letters... More
