Well what do you want to do in fashion? do you want to design fashion or sell fashion?? I go to school for fashion design. You said that you and your friend both do sketches so youll prob want to do fashion design? Well fashion design isnt just about drawing designs, you have to sew too. The school i go to is Lasell College ( www.lasell.edu ) its in newton, Mass, its right out side of boston. There is fashion design and fashion merchidising also. This is my first year here, the classes i took are:
Principles of color and design: we learned about design not so much on the drawing but they way lines are and stuff and how color works.
Writing 1: every one needs to take 2 writing courses (one year) and also a math, history and a science to graduate. In this class we just worked on our writing skills.
Pattern Generation 1: We did basic patterns for a bodice, skirt and pants, and we made a sloper for them. then we had to bring in sketches that we had to design, but we had to use gemetric shapes. We made our patterns for the garment, then we had to make it in muslin to make sure it looks and fit good and then we transfered it on to our fabric we wanted. and it goes into the fashion show (that they have every year). i made a red dress, its soo pretty and i got a 100 on it :D
Basic clothing constuction: we just get better on our sewing skills, we make a skirt, with a zipper and then a skirt with buttons, collar and cuffs.
Intro to digital design: We learned about adobe indesign, illustrator and photoshop, which is all good for fashion design espesally illustrator.
Studio drawing: Work on your drawing skills, im in this class now we are working on still life and porportions.
Writing 2: same as writing 1
Pattern generation 2: in this class right now, we are working with knit wear. we are making slopers for knit torsos and sleves, and now were are working on drafting out or knit wear desing, thats also going to go into the fashion show, Then we are going to draft out a bathing suit that we desinged, and depends on how fast people work that theirs might get into the fashion show.
Advance clothing construction: were sewing a lined princess seam jacket, and then pants, we do samples of sewing, learing diffrent types of seams and how to to all of the pleats and more.
Fashion illustration: we work on our figures, and each week we have a diffrent project, we have to color and we work with diffrent types of media, likee markers and water colors and ect.
Thats all the classes im taking for this year but if you go to the web site im sure you can look at the catalog or ask for one and you can read all of the courses discriptions.
each year the school puts on a fashion show, and its always sold out. this year its on may 4 and may 5 (senior collections) they put a runway in the gym and has 2 10 feet screens and a bunch of other stuff, im soo excited to have my stuff in the show. Most fashion schools you dont get to put things into the fashion show untill your a senior, like FIT you have to wait till your a senior. Its good to have your stuff now, people from the industry is going to be there so you will get good networking.
The school is in a quite town, but you can get to boston by the T (the subway) the school is walking distance to the station.

Alot of people think you need to go to a fashion school like FIT, but you dont get a lot of attention there like you need, here at lasell you can get help when you need it. and at FIT they go fast so if you work slow you will get behind. if you get behind here, and you need help the professors will help you. your also not in a large school so there isnt so many kids, also at FIT there was these 2 roomates, and one riped up the others portfolio and everything. so its a very compitve school, its compitve here also but not with people runing others.
If you have any more ?s please email me at mproulx@lasell.edu or hottie090988@yahoo.com
