What are the consequences of not working my full notice period?

I have worked as an electronics engineer for a UK/US defence engineering company for the last 3 years. The company was only set up in the UK so that our only product could be manufactured in the UK and thus meet the contractual requirements of the MOD. The majority of the senior managers are ex-military and are completely unequipped to deal with the real world. Sadly, my manager is one of these. His response to any issue to to swear and storm around, he always needs to be an alpha male. I've never worked for such a disorganised and uncaring company and I desperately want to leave..... So I got another job. The problem is that I need to leave within the next 6 weeks and my notice period is 2 calendar months. The other company are great but can't be flexible. They want me and I want to work for them so how do I get out of my contract early? I've got 6 days holiday left but my manager said he will not let me take it. Even if he did I need another 5 days. Please help!

Leave, be free, fly! The worst that can happen is that they sack you! The other thing not really applicable to you is that they will probably not re-employ you - very sad!

just hand in your notice mate, give them one month. If they mess you around you can take them to the cleaners. Keep a diary of everything just in case you need to see a solicitor.

Usually you will not be able to use them for a recommendation if you leave early...but you said you were under a contract that may be different....what are the rules or policies under your contract?

the new company must understand the conditions u r passing, u can offer them to work that period as a part timer, use ur power not only u need them they need u too.

If you leave before your notice period is up, the employer you are leaving can withold any money that is owed to since the last pay day AND ask for some of the money paid to you previously back as well.
