How do i become a marriage registrar for marrying people?

Hi, I would like to become a marriage registrar, i.e. to be the person who performs a marriage ceremony for couples either in a Registry office or at other locations. Can anybody tell me if there are any special criteria, eg, minimum age, experience, or where I might found out about vacancies? Im based in the UK. London. thanks

Most registrars keep legal records of births, marriages and deaths in their districts. For example, they issue birth, marriage and death certificates. You work for the city and county(or whatever you call your region in the UK) you have to be of legal working age. Check with your magistrate's office for openings.

Minty has answered your question excellently. I would just like to add it is very unusual (where I am anyway) to just suddenly become a Marriage Registrar, usually you are employed by the council and work your way up through the ranks.
