How do you manage 20 employees efficiently and effectively?

I am a partner in a custom furniture and cabinetry company. My main job is to "run" the shop. I know I need to teach people to be responsible for themselves, but I get frustrated with certain ones lack of focus and ability to work "out of the box." Quaility is number one. I can't do it all.

Lead by example. If you're good at your job, people will take notice, look up to you and follow suite

Delegate responsibilities. Have your best two or three employees be responsible for certain areas and give them a certain amount of authority to fix problems. Have them report to you any problems they fixed or problems they don't have the authority to handle themselves.

First thing id you need to let them to be able to take ownership of their jobs. Complament them on a job well done. Listen to any ideals that they may want to share.
