PURPOSE AND DISTINGUISING CHARACTERISTICS

Incumbents in this job work in a service station or similar automotive shop performing service and/or assisting a trained mechanic in a variety of repairs on state-owned cars, both gasoline and diesel operated. Functional supervision may be performed over staff doing similar duties in a service station or automotive shop.

* Provides assistance and/or on-the-job training.
* Drives a car, passenger or courier van, bus, or truck for pick-up and delivery of materials, or transportation of staff, clients, inmates, etc.
* Services equipment with fuel, oil and other needs: checks fluid levels, cleans equipment and vehicles externally and internally, replaces bulbs and filters, etc.
* Repairs, cleans, adjusts and/or performs preventive maintenance on computers, vehicles, equipment, tools, or machinery, etc.
* Works on special automotive parts or systems such as brakes, carburetors, generators, exhaust and suspension.
* Mounts, balances and repairs tires, including wheel alignments.
* Performs state safety inspections and emissions testing of state cars and trucks.
* Other tasks as assigned.

* Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
* The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough terrain or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as lifting up to 50 pounds, above-average agility, and dexterity.
* valid driver license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA53-3-202(1)(a).
