Where is the best place to live in Atlanta?

I'm considering a job at Ga. State University and wondering where the most affordable and best apartments in or around that area. I'm not into partying and clubbing, I just want something decent and affordable.

My wife teaches at Georgia State. Although some faculty/staff live in the suburbs (like Roswell as another person suggested), the commute is hellish unless you ride MARTA. there are several places on peachtree street, which becomes roswell rd. you may want to look up there. that would not be too bad of a ride to ga. state, and no too very expensive. the crime is not too bad either. hope that helps, good luck.

Given your situation, outside of 285 doesn't make any sense. east Atlanta would be a great bet!

Roswell is great. So is Alpharetta. They are both (as I call them) City Burbs. It's the city in the suburbs. Marta (city transportation) runs through these two towns.
