It is not necessarily fatal, but one thing you will need to check on is whether it will affect issuance of an FAA medical certificate. Contact an FAA medical examiner to see.

You could become a commercial pilot, but it would be easier for you to become one abroad.... more money. Initially you could become an instructor to gain hours, but eventually a commercial pilot won't be that difficult. And, no it will not affect your FAA medical certificate!

That's very sad. You could probably be a flight instructor since small FBOs may not do background checks. Good luck. Maybe someday you can get a pardon and have the record expunged.

Unfortunatly, becoming a pilot is one of the most subjective careers in the world. The background check can be failed on many airlines if you have a single DUI on your record... Don’t listen to the jerks responding to your question about how they hope you don’t pass, “would you like fries with that”, or the 7-11 thing. I don’t know to much about become a pilot but I just wanted to let you know that you deserve more respect than these jerks if you’re trying to change.
