How much do Claims Examiners make in?

California/Los Angeles? I just got a job processing medical claims through an agency at a benefits administrator trust company. I am making $19.00/hr. I am very experienced, although the last 2 1/2 years I was working in real estate (yes, I jumped in the band wagon, I know). I was a claims Supervisor in my last insurance job and I'm probably overqualified for the regular examiner's job I took, but I figure it was a good way to get back into claims/insurance and into a "corporate" job, not to mention refreshing my skills. I guess my qx is: how much are Claims Examiners making nowadays? how does my salary compare?..... I was making the same money ($40K) at my last Claims Supervisor job, but that was 2.5 years ago (and I was underpaid). Any comments from someone in the industry or in HR are greatly appreciated. Thanks

According to salary.com, a senior claims examiner in the Los Angeles area makes between about $44,500 and $58,650. That's with 2 to 4 years of experience. I have much experience in the insurance industry, and I would actually say you are getting underpaid, especially for the higher cost of living in the LA area.
