How many sales representatives do I need to rep a new line in a city?

Hi, considering that I have a new line of apparel coming soon and that I need to build a rep network for my products, I'd like to know how can I understand how many rep I can recruit in a city, so that they are not too many and not too few, in a way that they can all work at their best? Supposing that reps working for the same brand usually divide in individual sectors a city so that they don't mess with each other's job, on which criteria do they usually do this? And how do I know how much time will a rep need to cover a given territory? Because I can understand people wanting to handle a bigger territory for a better gain, but I wouldn't like this to take a lifetime, in that the launch of the line is also a test to see what sells and what not and at a certain point I have to get a clear picture of that, possibly the whole of it. Dealing in apparel, do they have to bring with them a prototype or is it sufficient that they have very good detailed pictures of the products? Thanks! Apparel, mostly t-shirts and bags.
