What is a respiratory therapist's job really like?
Do you receive on-the-job training or is a program the norm? I need a decent, but easier to break into, healthcare job so that I can gain experience while studying in college. I currently plan to enter a PA program later... Thank you : )

Respiratory therapists normally work 12-hour days (although, if there are hospitals that work on 8-hour schedules, they may work those, too), and they see a lot of things on the job. There is a 2 yr program specifically for respiratory therapists. In the hospital setting, they are key players & earn comparable salaries to RNs.

honey, just be a PA, RT would be a waste of 2 yrs education and money. here's what they do.....go see patients who have trouble breathing in the hospital, they suction mucus by sticking rubber catheters down their trach hole or mouth/nose, they hook pts up to breathing treatments and cpap machines.
