Time is short.
I agreed fully with you that it kept people from doing bad things.
However it also kept people from doing good things.
Life was and is too short to just wasted it on playing games.
One should spend more time to upgrade yourself in terms of knowledge and skills, to keep family members especially parents and grandparents company and make them happy while they could still retain their memory, not forgetting your love ones.
One could help in the community, be volunteers or run some business to earn donations for the charity organisation.
Life would be more meaningful if you have spent it wisely even though it is short.

But it can have physical issues related to it (poor posture from sitting in one position too long, carpal tunal from too much repetitive motion), it hinders social interaction, and it can take you away from your family. Now, I'm an avid video game player, but just as is appropriate with just about everything in life....moderation is the key.

Those are the good points of a video game addiction. The bad points are like the 30 year old who loses their job either from playing the games constantly at work if it is a computer game or not showing up at work either from exhaustion from playing the game all night or just because they are still playing the game. Not only their job, though. Its also possible that they become so addicted to the game that they neglect their family, who eventually leave them.

I just read an extremely interesting article about a mother who said her son attacked her physically when she tried to stop him from playing World of Warcraft. She said it was like he was possessed. The key here is balance. When you overdo anything it becomes bad for you. You become socially withdrawn and neglect your work/homework/friends. As long as you play games as part of your normal entertainment and it doesn't overtake your life, there is nothing wrong with it, in fact I agree with you: it's far better than experimenting with sex, drugs and alcohol.

Any addiction is bad. When you are addicted to one thing, you tend to neglect the other important things of life, which could be deleterious.

It is bad if you play for a long time because it affects the brain. i.e. The radiations and the fast-movements.

But there eye sight is usually terrible, all they talk about is video games, they are unhygenic. I know this from experience because, I have a little brother, and his life is all about video games. He is unhygenic, doesn't take showers, brushes his teeth. The last time he took a shower was in April, of 2006. But my point is that sometimes the streets are good for them, or their alternate hobby should be like, to go swimming, or bike riding, or watching television. I heard that like Disney channel is the best show around. But keeping them "off the streets" is just an excuse. Limit their video game time.

Being able to play video games is good as it really prevents you from spending money off the streets, joining a gang or be influence by drugs or indulge in sex. But then, playing too much video games is unhealthy for the eyes. Cuts down time you get to spend with your family and friends, increase electricity bills and therefore increase parent's burden to afford hefty electric bills. Playing VD games all the time makes your life looks monotone, boring and also may affect studies or even your sleep. Everything you do must be balance so that you can live a meaningful and fulfilled life.

I think anytime a person exhibits an addiction to something, there is cause for concern. The fact is, addictions prevent you from doing other things in your life, often things that are necessary or better yourself as a person. Most likely there aren't really as many people addicted to video games as some groups would like us to think, but the ones that are need help. They need help just as much as a drug addict or alcoholic. Addiction is a destructive behavior, so that's why people consider it to be a bad thing, even when it is an addiction to something seemingly innocent, like a video game.

They want to escape. It's really that simple. Some people blow blunts, others play with toys. IMO it works around the same principles.

Well i don't see nothing wrong with playing video games, my b/f will play them and i will even play them sometimes..he is 24 and im 21...but when it comes to a point when it has taken over your life then they are bad for that certain person..For example my b/f's brother is 21 and that is all he does ALL DAY long, no exaggeration, he has no job and lives with his dad, he will take a shower MAYBE once a wk because he wont stop playing the video games, he is soo skinny because he will eat like once a day because one again to addicted to the video to take a break..His dad doesn't make him do anything because the boy is 21 and thinks he is grown and they just argue if he say's anything to him. He even plays online computer games as well, and he has the 360 and this is his new life...So when it consumes your life then video games are bad but for that person it is happening to.

First of all, any addiction is bad. And there are millions of examples, drugs,drinks,smoking... If you are addicted to video games you slowly but surely distant yourself from your friends and family and it's almost certain that you'll lose your job. You wont be able to do things like hanging out with your friends going for a walk or any creative things like art or writing. You will only want to go home and play your video games. You wont be satisfied with anything else. Only your video game will make you feel good. The key IS balance. And remember Any addiction is BAD

Although I'm no expert this is only my opinion. Video games require many different forms of cognitive brain function and coordination as well as flexibility, they can teach patience. Many people feel that video games give people certain levels of social interaction. True in many cases video games can keep youth as well as adults out of trouble such as gangs, drugs and sex I feel in excess can limit real physical social interaction which can inhibit the ability of dealing with problems like knowing the difference of right and wrong and peer pressure. Life unlike a game cannot be restarted or cutoff when the results are less than favorable. No video game can teach consequences of your actions. So in conclusion my answer to your question, No I don't think video games are bad if played with boundaries, moderation and remembering it's only a game
