What is a barback??

A barback is a bartender's assistant. Barbacks work in nightclubs, bars, restaurants and catering halls. Barbacks stock the bar with liquor, ice, glasses, beer, fruit, and so on, and usually receive a portion of the bartender's tips. Barbacks are often under the tutelage of bartenders and work their way into the profession. Typically, they are primarily responsible for simplifying a bartender's job. Often, barbacks are responsible for supporting bartenders in pouring beers, wines, and simple mixed drinks, while learning the more complex varieties of drinks, such as cocktails. Dishwashing and bussing tables are also common duties. In most parts of the United States, the legal age for working as a bartender is 21, however, barbacks may be under this age. In some establishments barbacks may also be responsible for the safety of the bartender. In high-volume bars and nightclubs, the barback is indespensible - he or she is not only an assistant, but an integral and valued team member. Most nightclub barbacks not only stock and restock glassware, beer, liquor, ice, mix, etc., but also set up and tear down the face of the bar, in addition to bussing, queueing customers, and acting as a first-response system to potential problems on the floor for the door staff. A nightclub barback starts work hours before, and finishes sometime after, his or her bartender is done for the night. Club barbacks should be considered as skilled trades, as they manage up to a half-dozen bartenders, in addition to the crowds of drinkers often between them and what needs to get to the bar to maintain basic service, plus every other contingency. Barback simply means people working behind the scene. More like the bartender's helpers. Some bar have strict rules. Barback can't do drinks nor touch the bar gun. All they do is wash glasses, top up juice, garnishes and etc. Basicly all the shit things. But after awhile, you'll get promoted. But it depends on how fast you learn. Don't expect the bartenders to teach you about cocktails or the fact about the drinks. Go do your homework. Prove to them that you can do it. I was once like you. It is someone who helps the bartender clean up the bar area, stock the drinks, bottles, ice, etc. The job is what a busser is to a waiter. A barback can be a man or woman. A barback is a go-fer. Fills coolers with beer, keeps mixing stations full (chopped lemons, limes, onions, etc), brings up full bottles of booze from the storeroom, brings up ice from the ice maker. 	How do I get a job with Dodgy work history and no experience? Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university.
