If i want to start a job on date X, how long before that date should i start to apply?
Hopefully i will get a job when i go back to college in august 23rd but i want to start as soon as possible. I was wondering, how long before i return should i start looking for a job? I am only trying to get part time retail jobs like walmart/target and i heard it takes a few weeks after applying until you are hired. Any advice would be great, thanks.

If you want to start working when you go back to college on August 23rd, I would start looking now. Because you never know how long it would take. And it's always good to have a job and let them know you can't star til a certain date then NOT have any leads.

I would think that you could find a retail job and start it within 2 weeks of applying. If you are going to be looking in a college town though, the jobs might fill up fast. It might be a better idea to start looking 3 to 4 weeks in advance and simply tell them that you will be available to start work on XXX date.

Apply now, there is almost always a space on the form asking when you can start. Don't delay.
