above 20 % unemployment people actually starving, men leaving their family to go find work. wages going down hours up. my folks were hungry but had enough to get by. bank foreclosures very high. most had a hard time but the top 1 or 2 % got even richer.

you had the dust bowl which caused people to move west. Secondly, the people that survived the great depression tend to be savers and pack rats. Thirdly, the fought the second world war, they tended to be more cautious of change.
