How can I protect myself as an HR Officer?

I'm in charge of all HR tasks. How can I protect myself from "my-word-against-yours -situations"?

EMAIL...communication is KEY...keeps everyone honest...always CC (carbon copy) a higher level official on your email to cover your hiney too...if you can't email, draw up a generic letter and make ALL parties sign it... More

document everything and get people to sign it. If you have a meeting have someone sit in and take notes. The have the notes typed up and signed. Simple: Either tape record all meetings OR never meet alone with someone. I recommend the second option.
