I am studying this designing software called CATIA..How popular is it and wat r its prospects in jobs or research or any field for that matter..

I'll speak to the automotive industry usage of various CAD systems. Automotive OEM's use high end CAD systems, primarily such as CATIA and Unigraphics. You should learn at least one CAD software like CATIA. You should focus on basic design skills. There are other tools such as Unigraphics, ProE. Once you get hands on experience in one CAD software, learning other CAD software is no big deal.
