Where are the good family neighborhoods/areas in the San Antonio region?

We are relocating to San Antonio in the next two months and I am having a hard time figuring out where to rent a house. I really want a great school and low crime. Any advice on neighborhoods as well as specific elementary schools?

I was born and raised in San Antonio. I grew up on the Northeast side of town near Wetmore Rd and Thousand Oaks. That is in the North East Independent School District in my opinion the best one in the city. I attended Regency Place elementary for 3 years, then the boundaries changed so I moved to Wetmore Elementary... More

Alamo Heights is one of the best suburbs in San Antonio. Great schools too.

There are several areas that are really quit nice, some will stress that this area or that area is the best I am going to suggest that you broaden you view. In looking for the best place to live I would do my search in the NISD (Northside Independent School district) or the NEISD (North East Independent School District... More

I gave Kevin a thumbs up because I live in the same area as he does. I also teach school in San Antonio and I will tell you that this area is by far the best I have been to, worked in and lived in, but the same can be said from a general spread north from Southwest High School in the SeaWorld area to Judson ISD... I also agree with Kevin. I live pretty close to where he grew up and his parents live. I graduated class of 2006 from MacArthur HS and I miss it to this day. The NEISD is in a great part of town with lots of shopping and parks. Middle class neighborhoods that are safe and have a low rate of sex offenders. Which i'm... More

Before I graduated, I did a lot of fieldwork in many different school districts. My number one choice (to most people's suprise) is East Central, then NEISD, then NISD. I honestly can say I loved the programs they have in place at the East Central school I was at. There was a huge area with new homes right by this... More
