How do I go about finding and applying for a job as a crime scene technician?

I will be graduating soon with an associates degree in criminal justice and really want to be a crime scene technician. I am willing to take anything similar just to get my foot in the door. I am stuck on how to locate this job. Can anyone help me please. This is my dream and I have come to a road block. I have searched the internet til I could not see straight. Maybe there is a site I am missing.

You apply as a police officer and take the civil service exam first. Then when a position opens up , you get it internally through your department. Very few police departments have civilians working in those positions. TV has lied about that.
