Is wrestling more fun when your a mark or a smark?

I remember being about 8 or 9 and watching WCW and cheering for Goldberg to win the WHC from Hogan on nitro back in the day. I remember believing that Hogan was a terrible person as you do you buy into the character and are dictated into cheering for the face. Back then i didn't know anything about selling,a wrestlers skill, jobbing, backstage politics and the fact that it takes two to make a match i just thought the one beating the guy up at the time was the best. Then you find out about all of this stuff as you get older and you look back at the old tapes and relize wrestlers that were getting pushed weren't generally the best wrestlers most of the time they were getting pushed because of their look, size or mic skills. The matches you thought were good were actually terrible (Fall brawlwar games 98).You find out about how older Wrestlers use their pull backstage to say at the top instead of pushing younger stars. But is it more fun to be a mark or a smark?

Everything in life is a little bit easier, a little bit more fun if you're blissfully ignorant of reality. Look at how happy little children are at the most basic things in life... More

When I became a wrestling fan back in 1995 I thought It was all real. I mean I thought HBK & Sid really hated each other in real life When I was 7 years old I believed everything about wrestling. Now I am older I learned the shadiness of the industry, the politics, drugs, and ect. It is just crazy.

Same here.I remember myself as a Hogan fan and Batista fan a few years ago. When i realized that they were such awful wrestlers,I stop buying their action figures (yes,i have a bundle of each) and booing them when i went to live shows.I admit,i liked Cena when he was a rapper for a year, when he started feuding with JBL,... Depends entirely on what you're watching. Watching WWE as a smark is nearly heart-breaking, but you wouldn't be able to appreciate the finer, more emotional and psychological classics that only smarks seem to appreciate. Hope that answers your question. I too grew up as a Goldberg mark, and I can remember the... More

Well, I remember seeing the Invasion Angle, and thinking that it was such a good storyline. I knew that WWF would win. Not because there's no way that Vince would put this much effort into making a show where his wrestlers would lose, but because I just didnt want the WWF to lose. And then there was the time when... It's definitely more fun if you're a mark. Like Secret Asian Man said: ignorance is bliss. A mark is more likely to just get caught up in the match - even if it's a bad one - and enjoy it for what it is. A smark will be critiquing it the whole way, noting why it's not a good match, why they shouldn't have done this... More

for me, smark because your watching WWE with some intellegence and know who should be winning and stuff like that.
