Why do Iraq vets, often end up getting jobs such as security guards?

I realized that soldiers coming back from Iraq and left the military seek security guard as their pereferred job. Or is it, since they were too young all of them 18-to late 20's, they don't have an educational background and can't pursue a better career? STRONG!, ARMilitarY.

Not a lot of job fields in the military translate well into the civilian world. That being said, security is a rapidly growing job field in America.

its all about transitioning, if they were combat arms, they are used to the kind of stuff a security job entails. To speak the truth, most enlisted guys get out without college, but they will start that up sooner or later thanks to the GI bill. Dont be so vague though saying its just Iraq vets, its all service... More

Its because a combat vet is by far the most qualified for the job. Most security jobs are pretty cushy and pay decent, and like you said, it is one of the few jobs that a combat arms guy, like infantry translates over in the civil field.

It's common. My friend in the Guard is thinking about becoming a security guard and as far as I know, he was an honor roll student every year in high school. I think it just depends on the expectations of the individual. Trust me, I believe any veterans coming from Iraq can land most jobs other than security guards. Oh... More

I think security jobs are great careers because its job security. Thats what soldiers are looking for, is the ability to get out and get... More

Well; my husband swears when he retires his goal is to become a mall security guard, eat donuts all day, get fat and shop. LOL...he's joking of course. But, I think the security guard thing is just because that's where most of them are comfortable. They spent a lot of time training to be able to properly guard things... More

I don't know but those fools just keep piling up one right after the next to go warring. I cannot wait until Armageddon when all the worldly militaries and governments and those mingling in them will be destroyed.
