Interested in the best way to approach my job hunt?

I have been applying to all sorts of jobs since May. I havent taken any jobs and I have been rejected from quite a few. I am interested in some advice on the best way to approach this idea. While I was layin in bed last night, I got this idea. Package my cover letter, resume and a short letter together into a large envelope and address them to every hiring manager at every bank in my area. Does anyone think this could be a big waste of time. Another idea was to personally go to each bank and ask to speak with the branch manager only problem with most banks is that they like you to fill out a online profile and apply for jobs that way. What should be the most useful plan of attack?

I would recommend contacting 2-3 employment agencies or temp firms in your area. Many companies especially in financial services work through these companies to find the staff that they require. These agencies should not charge you a fee and should be able to find you a position fairly quickly.
