How does one become a pro zamboni driver?

Do you honestly just do the High School to CHL to NHL like everyone else. How are you a "good" zamboni driver? By time? What do they get paid?

Who doesn't aspire to be a zamboni driver? The best zamboni drivers smile when they do it. They're paid in beer Just kidding, I love you guys. You work the hardest (next to Marty St. Louis of course)

What? Zamboni drivers don't move up from the minors or juniors. They are hired by the rinks or organizations in question and pretty much stay there forever as rink crew be it driving the Zamboni or whatever... More

In most municipalities you work for the city, and you would be part of the arena staff in winter. Zamboni driving would only be about 10 per cent of your job. In the NHL it depends on who owns the rink. You would just be another member of the arena staff.

Go to your local municipality office, fill out an application for arena employees and put on it your desire to drive a zamboni. Having some mechanical or maintenance skills would help get you in the door. I don't know of any zamboni 101 courses so your chances are as good as the next guy's... More
