Should I hold the dentist responsible for a crown and root canal gone bad from 10 years ago ?

I had told him that the tooth was too high,so he adjusted it after several times of trying to convince him and he still did not get it right and he argued with me that it was. I did not want him working on my mouth when he was angry. I was passive back then and as one of your statistics stated i just thought I would go somewhere else, but I ended up putting it off due to my 4 kids and wife come first, and now I feel he should be accountable and I am having complication with my jaw bone, it is deteriorating, and popping and is uneven due to the raised crown. I am even having a crawling sensation in my ear and on the side of my face that no one can explain. I think it is some type of nerve damage. I have went back to see him and give him the opportunity to see the bad job and he denies it and I even wrote him a letter that he was supposed to respond to by 8/15/07. I have not heard from him. I would like to proceed with respect I am not out for blood I just want my tooth fixed.

It sounds like you have TMJ. Joint popping, pain in the joint and the surrounding areas are all symptoms. TMJ often causes spasms in the adjacent muscles that are attached to the bones of the skull, face, and jaws. Then, pain can be felt at the side of the head (the temple), the cheek, the lower jaw, and the teeth... More

sounds like you need to get a hold of a lawyer or someone that knows what the right thing to do is. I would probably be sueing my head off if I were you.

10 years ago? Doubtful. Why not get an evaluation from another dds or endodontist? The other symptoms don't really sound like a root canal gone bad. While I am sorry for your troubles, it sounds as though you have had 10 years of service from these proceedures.

Sorry to tell you, but its from 10 years ago and I don't think that he can be held responsible. You should have went to another dentist to have them look at it. You can file a claim but you are still responsible for your own health. Too bad that is life, for all of us. Stop going to him, go to another dentist!!! But... More

I think you are a day late for suing or anything like that. Root canals are not 100% sure, They are pretty much a gamble some work and some don't. Sometimes they need to be retreated by an endodontist. Have the tooth rechecked.
