Can someone describe Asperger's in girls?

I am turned fourteen a few days ago, and a few days before my fourteenth birthday, I was diagnosed with Asperger's, or high-functioning autism. I'm still unsure if I have it or not, though. I'm very socially awkward around strangers, but not around my friends. I do find it hard to read people, but I've gotten better at it, and I can read my friends quite well. I'm capable of feeling empathy. I don't like being hugged, I am sensitive to heat, smells and tags, I hate the color yellow, I often spell words in my head without realizing it, I stutter occasionally, my words sometimes come out in the wrong sequence, and when I'm mad, I sometimes get so worked up that I forget what is going on and end up with a headache. I suppose I do display innapropriate attatchment to objects, but only my stuffed animals, and I've always been that way. I rock when I'm excited. I can't take directions. If someone says something with two or more steps, for some reason, I just don't seem to comprehend it. It's confusing. I have problems focusing, and often space out for ten or more minutes. Besides all of this, I have above average marks in testing. I have a wild imagination, and when I'm bored, I create dialogues and scenarios in my head to amuse myself. It's kind of like reading a story, but I'm obviously not reading it, and it's my own story. I am good at amusing myself. When I'm not paying attention, I supposedly have a sad expression on my face. I guess that would explain why almost every teacher has offered to let me skip class and go see the counselor. Also, I don't lack manners. I know when to thank people, and all of that stuff. Does this sound like Assburgers? I didn't mean to put "am" in at the beginning, and I didn't mean to write "Assburgers" at the end. Haha.

I understand how a diagnosis such as this would throw you. There are enough in-depth answers, so will take a different approach. With Asperger's Syndrome you will still have a good life. From your description of yourself, it doesn't appear to be holding you back from developing and pursuing your interests. : ) Good... More

The overwhelming majority of referrals for a diagnostic assessment for Asperger's Syndrome are boys. The ratio of males to females is around 10:1, yet the epidemiological research for Autistic Spectrum Disorders suggests that the ratio should be 4:1. Why are girls less likely to be identified as having the... More

Yes - Asperger's is different in all cases, and lots of elements of your behaviour would have been considered - the orderly routines and attachments you have to objects is a 'biggie' and so too the rocking - and your sensitivity. It's all good - your teachers should be focussing on your strengths - your writing... More
