The image of a stay at home mom conjures up an image of drudgery and unsophistication. We can thank the media and the "Women's Lib Movement", Helen Gurley Brown, with this disturbing image. It started in the sixties that women were made to believe that if they stayed home raising the kids and keeping house, then they... More

I personally respect stay at home mothers. Their job is important and much more demanding than some others. If a mother decides that that is what she wants to do for her family, I have no beef with that whatsoever.

I think it is a very important job and I'm sure your kids do too. I wish my mom could have stayed home to help me do my homework and kept an eye on me better. Unfortunately being a stay at home mom has a bad rep I think it is because not everyone is fortunate enough to stay home and really would like to. I guess... More

I believe it's a consequence of the feminist movement. A stay at home mom is a "traditional" role. It is associated also with conservatism, so it's an affront to those trying to change an old stereotype to a new one.

I think there's still the old stereotype coupled with the fact that more and more women are becoming self absorbed. That's why so many kids are turning to drugs, sex, etc. Just my opinion.

I wish I could be a stay at home mom.... but my husband can't afford it.
Answered By: Jess - 8/29/2007
Because it's seen as something they're forced to do. Some people see a stay at home mom and just assume that her husband refuses to let her out of the kitchen. Typical male stereotype.

Some people who work hard jobs, don't understand why some people don work or have easier jobs. There are jobs out there, that require a lot of work. Those hard workers, think everyone should work as hard as they do. It is just the amount of work they have to do, that makes them this way.
