What is the best way to cheer up a child? Read for detail..interview question..help!?

I have a 2nd interview tomorrow w/ Payless Shoe Source and one of my interview questions is going to be.. :: A child needs his foot measured but he/she is very cranky, crying, or refuses... how would you go about measuring his/her foot?' :: Ivehad experience w/ children and pyschology... i do know that i should get on their eye level when talking with them. What would be a creative answer/ideas?? what would YOU say to the child/do/act?? how would you cheer them up? be specific..examples.. Please help!! thanks!!

Sit the little child down and use kind/gentle tone, say "how are u? or how do you feel? " If they do not respond or keep crying, Having a candy/treat ready(get consent from parents before giving the child any treats). Ask them if they like surprises. If they nod, ask them to close their eyes for 5 seconds, count slowly... More

I wouldn't force your self on the child. I would have the parent or the other person that brought the child into the store to do it. I would just say " Would you want Mommy or Daddy to put it on for you? " I have that problem with my grandchild. She doesn't want any strange person near her ( she's 15 mo. old ). I... More

My best advise is humor. Smile, joke around "where should be put this on your ear, etc." Most children lighten up when approached with a smile and a laugh.
