For Native Americans and First Nations: What advantages are there to living on reservations?

I would imagine that when you live on the res, you at least have more opportunities to practice your own culture and be around other members of the same culture. However, if what I've heard is true, reservations are also rife with crime, alcoholism, suicide, unemployment, and various other problems. What's your take on the matter?

Its a ghetto. No different than any other ghetto-it gives some freedom but destroys true freedom and takes away humanity. You could make all the same arguments for the German ghettos in WWII, or any other ones in history.

well, take the location of most reservations-generally, the federal government would claim a HUGE chunk of land, give or sell to whites the choice sections, and let the native people 'keep' what was left over...generally, these were lands that weren't much good for any type of agriculture, were far from established...
