	Is the Greenland Ice sheet melting at an accelerated pace? I know the same old debate,some scientists claimed that the sesonal tempartures are 10 degrees higher than normal this year,is this alarmist? and where can i get free downloads on actual temperature reading records data since whenever actual records wheyr'e taken in Greenland? Well sadly, if we keep emitting as much Co2 and methane at the same or accelerated pace as we are now, pretty soon greenland will actually be green. for where u can get free downloads, i'm sure if you just google it you'll find something. Sure it is. It's surpassed any previous level of melting in human history. Here's a couple of summaries. The fact that the ice sheets have been discovered to detach from the underlying land and slide towards the sea has resulted in much faster warming that was predicted even a year ago. They melt around the edges as they break off, fall into the sea, and float away to warmer parts of the ocean. Antarctica has pieces breaking off and floating away that are the size of Connecticut and Delaware. Nothing like that has happened in human times. It's important to remember there's a seasonal melt/freeze cycle too. We are at the end of the usual melt cycle right now. What you see is that each year as the icecap tries to reform, less and less remains each year. here's a link on both. Greenland was green when the viking landed there, maybe we're finally starting to warm back up to where we are supposed to be. wouldn't it be great to have a longer growing cycle in such a large area-Canada-Russia-China. there are right know studies showing increased wildlife population in some northern areas. i guess that is bad news if you come across a polarbear, but there are more of them. warmer weather and easier for them to get to food. more food for us, more wildlife, more plant life, yeah these are all terrible things. how can we stop them. There is NO way global warming has accelerated to the point the temp is increasing by 10 degrees each year. any GW proponent who claims this is beyond delusional -- if the temperature were to raise at that rate the earth would look like venus in a matter of decades. it's not possible. the mean temp. from year to year has always fluctuated, this is natural. it's not something new at all. Go to the History Channel. They have a lot of good starts for looking. We as humans are adding to the equation of warming but there is a larger cyclic earth equation going on. Most refuse to acknowledge it even if they are aware of it. The History Channel is only a beginning of your quest but will point you in the directions you are looking for. Hi Yowsie. You are definitely right about the Greenland ice sheet melting faster than usual. The other day, I saw a picture that was beautiful. However it was a shock to read what was said about the photo. The ice has melted so drastically, so much more than has ever been recorded in history. It has melted so much that the Northwest Corridor is now open! The Northwest Corridor was named because it was thought that it would make an excellent shipping lane. It was never used because of the huge amount of ice. Famous explorers could not get through there. Now, however, it is completely melted; a shipping lane is made for the first time in history. I do not think it is alarmist to say there is a problem; I think it is alarming. The Arctic melt season has lengthened by 10–17 days, shrinking the amount of ice buildup that remains from year to year. As sea ice thins and recedes from coastlines, indigenous hunters and fishers are finding themselves cut off from traditional hunting grounds. Coastal communities face more violent and less predictable weather, rising sea levels, and diminishing access to food sources. Polar bears, unable to cross thin or nonexistent ice to hunt seals, will soon face a severely reduced food source. Scientists fear that with continued melting, the bears may become extinct by the end of the century. Seals, walruses, and seabirds will also lose key feeding and breeding grounds along the ice edge. This is alarming, not alarmist. You are right, Yowsie, that the Greenland ice sheet is melting at an accelerated pace. The vast ice sheet that coats Greenland up to 2 miles thick is reacting to global warming far faster than scientists thought it would. It is the acceleration that stuns scientists. Greenland's glaciers are adding up to 58 trillion gallons of water a year to the oceans, more than twice as much as a decade ago and enough to supply more than 250 cities the size of Los Angeles, NASA research shows. That's particularly unsettling because elaborate climate models that scientists use to estimate the effects of global warming did not foresee it. 	How do I get a job with Dodgy work history and no experience? Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time.
