Is it illegal for my employer to share the info in my Drivers License and paycheck?

I found out that the Office Manager at my job shared the information of my drivers license and the amount of my paycheck with a mutual friend. Is this illegal?

The short answer to your question is yes it is illegal for an empoloyer to share information with anyone. the longer version is pretty much the same but additionally, your employer had no right to share that information with a mutual friend or anyone outside of your work or inside for that matter without the proper release forms signed by you to permit such activity or a properly issued subpeona from the court to order such a release of information. your employer violated the right to privacy act which is a federally enacted piece of legislation to protect people from the illegal acquisation of personal information by those who are not legally require to obtain that information. I would, if I were you, first obtain an attorney who specializes in employment law and then report your employer to the EEOC for violating the civil rights privacy act. good luck in your pursuit of justice with this issue.

DEFINITELY! Everything in your personnel file is confidential. It cannot be released to an outside party without your written consent, or a subpoena. You have every right to report your office manager to her supervisor, or seek legal advice. Were you adversely affected? If so, you may have grounds for damages compensation against them.

This is the law and ethics questions, and this is not a law question but an ethics question. So it is opinion based. I am not asking for a legal answer, I already know the law, I am asking for your moral viewpoint on the situation. Should a homeless man who loves his children be allowed to keep them?? The hypothetical man is looking for a job, but not avidly. And he of course, lives on the street, and not in a car.

If you are on welfare you shouldn't be allowed to have more kids. How can I get a law passed to make it so that before the welfare bennies come rolling in, a woman has to have Norplant inserted in her arm? No Norplant... No bennies.
