How do police officers feel about mandatory minimum sentencing?

I understand that it is not a police officer's job to determine the sentencing of an offender, only to arrest those they suspect of breaking the law and note the offenses they suspect. But I'm wondering how officers feel about the fact that someone who is arrested for possession of a small amount of something like marijuana or slightly exceeding the BAC limit will likely suffer an unduly harsh punishment - especially when the real consequences of such offenses result in no personal injury or property damage. I ask because I've noticed several police officers answering tonight. Thanks in advance!

Personally I think its a great idea! I'd like to see probation and parole done away with in favor of corporal punishment for violations. Caning would be very efective and far less expensive. Inmates are such a big bunch of pussys and whiners.
