FYI - (sorry to diss the other persons recommendations - but they are all poor choices)
Daisy Flour Mill : is closed and has been closed for some time - so I think that person just did a search online.
Conesus Inn : Not in Rochester ( 40min away)I heard is only good for their Prime Rib - and if you want even better prime rib thats 40 minutes away, then go to the Red Osier
Bathtub Billy's Restaurant : is not high class.
My recommendations
Give 2Vine a try - great food, nice bar, interesting building - the place can get a little loud but the food is great. If they have the pan seared sea bass on the menu please let me know it's unbelievable.
http://www.2vine.com/ The restaurant is downtown - near the little theater. Feel free to take in an artsy movie before or after dinner.
Max Chophouse or Max of Eastman (owned by the same person) I've only been to Max not Max's of Eastman.
http://www.maxofeastmanplace.com/ Excellent quality - high priced but very good. Max chophouse - it looks bad from the outside - b/c it's in a small strip mall, but the food is great (in Brighton)
Max of Eastman is downtown near the Eastman School of music - I heard the food is just as good.
Richardson Canal House I heard is a great place for dinner - I have not been but may go this Friday - I can tell you how the food is.
http://www.richardsonscanalhouse.net/ FYI - you said you hate Rochester yet you haven't explored... how do you know you hate if you haven't tried it? Rochester is a wonderful place - great people - nice parks - biking, hiking, 4 seasons, many festivals. Have you seen the Human Body exhibit at the Science Museum yet - I heard it's great? Been to any of the vineyards right around the corner? Visited the Lilac Festival, Park Ave or Cornhill Festival? Biked down the Canal path? Waterskied on one of our many lakes surrounding us? Gone to Strong Childrens museum (the largest childrens museum in the US) w/ your nieces or nephews ? Now it's apple season... have you gone for a hay ride and apple picking yet... ton of places around us. If you go Richardson's for dinner swing over to the Powers Farm - pick up a pumpkin or a homemade pie. Also make sure you wax up your Xcountry skiies... get them ready for the many groomed trails in Mendon Ponds Park. I guess before you wax up your skiies.. get out on the links first... don't worry you don't need to call for reservations at most of our golf courses b/c we have so many.. also you won't have to take out a home equity loan to play these very nice courses.... they are so cheap compared to many locations - let me recomment Bristol Harbor - I love that course - I love the GPS carts. I'm just getting started...but I'm running out of time... there is too much stuff for me to do in Rochester and not much time to do it all.
