Do you think contacting your elected officials about the issues REALLY helps?

I am being completely serious here. Do you think it helps? Why or why not? Also, if you don't mind, aside from contacting said officials, what other things do you do to get involved and try to initiate or help make changes?

Serious answer - yes. Politicians (elected officals) live by opinion. In our government, I'm sorry to say, their foremost, perhaps only, concern is to get re-elected. Politicians get lots of letters and use the opinions to determine their stated positions on issues and - sometimes - even do what they say. It's kind... More

Yes it does help. They are supposed to represent you and their constituents. They will answer you eventually if you write, email or call them with a concern. In the cases that they are personally opposed to.. No. It probably wont make a huge difference. I have written to "elected officials" before. If it doesnt affect them, they will not care too much. Actually it does help to an extent. It all depends on the Representative. Some help and listen some don't. I'm very fortunate in my area. Mine have helped with several problems. Unfortunately their hands sometimes are tied if it's something on a national level rather than a state or personal issue.

It has with my Reps so far. With the exception to one. But yes they hear our concerns and act or react. Mine think I hate them. When in reality I want them to do the right thing for their State constituents, and the rest of the American people.
